Patricia Tamayo is a Barcelona-based architect, researcher, and educator whose work bridges architectural practice and academia, with a focus on architecture and urbanism.
She founded her independent practice in 2015, developing projects across different scales, from interior design and architecture to urbanism. Her work explores the potential of existing buildings and places, particularly industrial heritage, and the ways in which they can be adapted to new uses while preserving their character and identity.
Patricia graduated with honors (magna cum laude) in Architecture from ETSALS Barcelona in 2006, receiving the award for the highest academic record and recognition at the IX Spanish Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism. She later completed a Postgraduate Master in Integrated Architecture at ETSALS and was awarded a scholarship to undertake a research stay at Seoul National University, South Korea. In 2022, she obtained her International PhD in Architecture from KU Leuven, Belgium.
She has been teaching architecture and urbanism since 2007, first at ETSALS Barcelona (2007–2017) and later at UIC Barcelona (2017–2025). She currently teaches at the School of Architecture of the Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV) in Reus, and has been invited as a guest critic at institutions including Hochschule für Technik Zürich, Korea University, ETSAV, and ETSAB Barcelona (UPC).
At the heart of her work is an interest in the atmospheres that architecture can create – through light, material, scale, and the subtle ways in which spaces shape our experience of place.
