Row House Renovation
An old row house with quiet potential, waiting to be rediscovered. The client’s wish was simple and full of promise: to let the light in.
We honoured that intention by revealing the building’s generous bones. Removing false ceilings uncovered original timber beams that set a new rhythm for the rooms. Skylights and carefully placed openings invite daylight to pour in and frame views toward the garden, folding the outdoors into daily life.
Respect for the past guided every decision. Reclaimed doors were reused in new positions, their patina connecting old and new. A second bathroom was added on the first floor, increasing comfort and everyday practicality. On the ground floor we lifted the pavement to install underfloor heating- a discreet intervention that brings steady comfort, protects the house from ground humidity, and makes the entrance feel welcoming from the first step. The result is both practical and poetic: light defines the volumes, natural materials offer tactility, and the plan adapts to multiple life stages- from quiet mornings to lively dinners and future family life. We preserved the house’s history while enhancing its original character. This project is an ode to light and to a way of living that reshapes everyday life- revealing the home’s original character while opening it to new possibilities.
