This apartment renovation is located in a heritage building in Poble Sec, Barcelona, on a narrow street where daylight scarcely reaches the interior. When first visited, the dwelling was dark, with only two balcony doors facing the street. Being the top floor allowed the project to introduce a skylight in the roof, bringing natural light deep into the apartment and illuminating the space from the entrance. In the original layout, the living room had no windows. The new organization reverses this condition: the living space is placed along the façade, where it benefits from the street-facing openings. A wider interior area accommodates the kitchen and becomes the central space of the home. The bedroom opens generously towards the living space. As the apartment is used as a second residence for a couple, the boundaries between rooms remain flexible, allowing the home to be experienced as a continuous space. Soft curved corners guide movement and give continuity to the interior. A custom element made of hydraulic cement tiles acts as a defining feature, introducing pattern and identity to the apartment.
