Vigo Bread Factory

Competition

What was once an isolated industrial site becomes a vibrant public landscape where market life, culture, community, and everyday activity come together. The project reconnects fragmented pieces of the city through a sequence of squares, public spaces, and reused industrial structures, turning forgotten architecture into a catalyst for social life. The iconic silo and factory chimney remain as powerful reminders of the site’s history, but are reimagined for a completely new future. Inside the former silo, a dramatic new church and gathering space rises around a cloister that also works as an auditorium for performances, events, and public meetings. At the center of the intervention, a new market square acts as the project’s social engine — a place designed not only for commerce, but for encounters, conversations, and collective experiences. More than a redevelopment project, the Bread Factory Complex creates a new urban destination where heritage, public life, and contemporary architecture merge into a single experience.
