Patricia Tamayo was born in Barcelona and graduated with honors (magna cum laude) in Architecture from ETSALS (2006), earning the award for the highest academic record and the IX Spanish Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism prize. PgDip Master of Integrated Architecture (ETSALS-2012). She received a research grant during her doctoral studies at SNU, South Korea (2015), and later obtained a PhD in Architecture from KU Leuven, Belgium (2022).
Her career is defined by an integrated approach of academic research, professional practice, and teaching which seamlessly spans architecture and urbanism. Actively engaged in academia, Patricia began her lecturing career at ETSALS in 2007 both in urban design and architecture, and she now holds positions teaching Design Studio at UIC Barcelona (since 2017). In addition, she has contributed as a guest critic at institutions like such as Hochschule für Technik Zürich Faculty of Architecture, Korea University, and ETSAB Barcelona among others.
Patricia's professional journey includes collaborations with leading firms such as Mecanoo Architecten in the Netherlands, where she played a key role in Spanish projects. Since 2015, she has established her own independent practice, focusing on projects that explore the intermediate scale and industrial heritage. Her expertise has been recognized through various awards and completed projects, most notably her recent work on the refurbishment of Barcelona’s Nau F for the new Labour Museum of MUHBA within the Fabra & Coats industrial heritage complex.
Beyond her professional practice, Patricia's research has been published in peer-reviewed journals and curated exhibitions. She consistently strives to maintain coherence in her work, ensuring her professional projects are grounded in her research, and this focus is also applied to education. This intentional cohesive approach remains a defining element of her trajectory.
